In 2024, Polish family-owned bakery NOWEL – managed by the fourth generation of the founding family – launched a production facility that sets new standards in the bake-off bread sector. The first phase of the investment in Nowy Modlin, worth PLN 200 million, was completed in a record 18 months. The entire project has been designed as a multi-stage investment, with a total budget that may exceed PLN 800 million. From logistics to production lines, every element was designed from scratch in line with the company’s philosophy: to combine tradition with innovation.
The facility is located in a Special Economic Zone, just 40 kilometers from downtown Warsaw. Its location along the S7 expressway and near the Warsaw - Modlin Airport makes it an ideal distribution hub for both domestic and international markets. The entire site covers 10 hectares and is prepared for future expansion.
The investment in Nowy Modlin is more than just a production facility. It represents our four generations of experience, knowledge, and ambition to create the bake-off bread of tomorrow. – says Michał Zajezierski, Vice President, responsible for development and investment. We designed this plant from scratch, focusing on technology, quality, and long-term growth potential.
NOWEL exports its products to over 30 countries and continues to grow its international presence. Exports now account for nearly 30% of total sales. The company serves both major international retail chains and HoReCa operators.
International expansion is a strategic direction for us. The new facility gives us a completely new scale of operations: higher volumes, greater flexibility, and faster order fulfillment. – says Karolina Zajezierska, Vice President, responsible for sales and export.
The Nowy Modlin plant is also a reflection of a commitment to responsible production. The facility features heat recovery systems, energy-efficient technologies, and solutions that minimize water and energy consumption. NOWEL is a member of the Polish Association for Sustainable Agriculture and Food. All of its baked goods are made with simple recipes – free from preservatives and unnecessary additives.
NOWEL not only responds to the demands of large retail chains – the company also invests in developing new products and flavors. Its state-of-the-art R&D lab creates original recipes, such as the premium 'Stone-Baked' line, inspired by the traditional method of baking on volcanic granite from Italy’s Val D’Ossola region.
Consumers have fallen in love with the taste, and products from this range have become our absolute bestsellers. – Karolina Zajezierska
This is proof that innovation can go hand in hand with the authentic, artisanal character of bread.
In 2025, as it celebrates its 100th anniversary, NOWEL proves that family heritage can be the foundation for global quality. The new plant in Nowy Modlin marks a major step in strengthening the company’s position in the European market.
